“Do not be afraid! For behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” The first Christmas announcement came to shepherds on a night shift. It is still news for ordinary people in ordinary places.
Here are prayers for Christmas: for your family, for Christmas Eve, and a grace for Christmas dinner, each drawn from the Gospel accounts of His birth.
Isaiah 9:6
Lord Jesus, unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and You are that Son. Wonderful Counselor, guide me. Mighty God, be strong where I am weak. Everlasting Father, hold my family close. Prince of Peace, quiet my heart this Christmas. I welcome You again with joy and give You my whole life. Amen.
Pray along with the voice →Luke 2:10-11
Lord God, tonight I hear the angel’s words again: Do not be afraid. Good news of great joy has come for all the people. A Savior has been born, Christ the Lord. Quiet the noise of this night, and let me hurry to Him like the shepherds. Take away my fear, fill me with joy, and let me worship Him tonight. Amen.
Pray along with the voice →Luke 2:14
Father in heaven, glory to You in the highest! Thank You for sending Jesus, and for bringing my family together this Christmas. Let Your peace rest on our home, on those gathered here, on those far away, and on the ones we miss. Where we have hurt each other, help us forgive. Make our home a place where Your favor and joy can be seen. Amen.
Pray along with the voice →Matthew 1:23
Lord, You are Immanuel, God with us, and You are with us at this table. Thank You for Jesus, born for us. Thank You for this food, for everyone who cooked it, and for each person here. Bless those we miss today and those who have no table. Fill our meal with Your joy and our hearts with Your peace. Amen.
