“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Some of the most important prayers you will ever pray are for someone else, often when they can’t pray for themselves.
These prayers are for the friend in the hospital, the coworker whose marriage is hurting, and the person who simply came to mind today. Pray by name, and tell them you did.
Proverbs 17:17
Lord, thank You for my friend. You know what they are carrying right now, even what they haven’t told me. Hold them close. Give them strength for today and hope for tomorrow. Make me the kind of friend who loves at all times, who shows up in the hard seasons and not only the easy ones. Let my friend feel Your love through mine. Amen.

Lord, I lift up my loved one as they go into surgery. Sustain them on their bed of illness. Give the surgeons, nurses and the whole care team steady hands, clear minds and wisdom. Calm every fear, theirs and ours. Be near them while they sleep and when they wake. Restore them from their bed of sickness, Lord, and hold all of us in Your peace. Amen.
Pray along with the voice →James 5:14-15
Lord, I bring before You someone I love who is sick. You know their pain, their fear, and every detail of their care. Be near them today. Comfort them and give them rest, and if it is Your will, restore them and raise them up. Give wisdom and skill to their doctors and nurses, and strength to everyone who cares for them. Forgive us and hold us close. Amen.
Pray along with the voice →James 5:16
Lord, You did not make us to carry our burdens alone. Give me the humility to be honest with a trusted friend about my sins and struggles, and the love to listen when they are honest with me. Today I lift up my friends who are sick or hurting. Heal us, Lord, in body and soul, as You will. Make me faithful in praying for others. Amen.
