When people brought their children to Jesus, the disciples tried to send them away, and Jesus would not have it: “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them!” Praying for your children is bringing them to Him again, every day.
These prayers are for parents and grandparents praying over a child, and for simple prayers children can say with you at bedtime.
Short prayers for your children
3 John 1:4
Father, thank You for my children. You know each one by name. Draw them to Your truth and help them walk in it, not only know it. When they wander, bring them back. When they are tired or confused, light the path ahead of them. Help me live what I teach them. And give me no greater joy than this: to hear that my children are walking in the truth. Amen.

Isaiah 54:13
Lord, I bring my son to You. You know him even better than I do. Teach him Yourself: what is true, what is right, and how much You love him. When my words don’t reach him, let Yours reach him. Let him flourish, as You promise to the children You teach, and keep him close to You all his days. Amen.

Luke 1:45
Lord, thank You for my daughter. As Elizabeth blessed Mary, I bless her today. Give her a heart that believes Your word and trusts that You will keep it, even when she can’t yet see how. Surround her with women of faith who will cheer her on. When she is afraid or unsure of herself, remind her that she is Yours, and let her be blessed in believing You. Amen.

Dear God, thank You for today. Thank You for my family and my friends, and for all the good things You gave me. I’m sorry for the times I wasn’t kind. Now I lie down and sleep. Please keep me safe all night. When I wake up, You will still be with me. You hold me up, Lord. I love You. Amen.

Lord, as my child goes back to school, I place them in Your care. Guard them from all evil and preserve their soul. Watch over their coming and going, on the bus, in the classroom and on the playground. Give them good friends, kind teachers and a brave heart. Help them learn and grow, and bring them home safe to me. Amen.

Psalm 139:14
Lord, I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. You formed my inmost being and knit me together in my mother’s womb; nothing about me was hidden from You. When I compare myself with others or wish I were someone else, remind me that Your works are marvelous, and I am one of them. Help me know this very well, and live today as someone You made with care. Amen.
