Comfort & Not Alone

These Hands Made the Stars

John 1:14

Jesus, the hands that made the stars became small enough to be held. You who flung the galaxies into the dark came close enough for me to reach. When You feel too vast to know me, remind me that You became flesh — You came near, You let Yourself be held. Let me hold on to You today, and never let go. Amen.

The Scripture

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”

— John 1:14

About this verse

John opens his Gospel not with a birth narrative but with cosmic scope: 'the Word' who was with God and was God, through whom all things were made, 'became flesh and dwelt among us.' The Greek behind 'dwelt' evokes tabernacling — pitching a tent, the same language used for God's presence among Israel in the wilderness. John is making an audacious claim: the same power that spoke galaxies into being became a vulnerable human infant, small enough to be held, touched, hungry, tired. It is the theological center of the Incarnation — not a distant deity managing creation from afar, but God choosing nearness. This is a prayer for when God feels too vast and far away to actually care about your small, specific life.
