How to memorize a Bible verse
- Pick one verse. One verse a week is plenty. Choose one that speaks to where you are, or follow the 52-week plan.
- Read it aloud with the reference. Say the reference before and after the verse, three times a day: John 3:16, For God so loved…, John 3:16. The reference is how you will find it again.
- Take words away. Practice mode hides a few words, then half, then leaves only the first letters, until you can say it from memory.
- Write it where you will see it. A card on the mirror, the lock screen of your phone, the fridge. Print the flashcards on this site and cut them out.
- Review the old ones. A verse stays when you keep using it. Say last week’s verse with this week’s, and pray each one back to God.

Questions
What are the best Bible verses to memorize?
Start with verses that tell the gospel (John 3:16, Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9), verses for fear and worry (Isaiah 41:10, Philippians 4:6-7), and verses about God’s Word and prayer. The adults’ page has fifty, grouped by what you will need them for.
How do you memorize a Bible verse fast?
Say it aloud with its reference several times, then hide words step by step until you can say it with only the first letters, then from memory. Short, repeated practice over a few days beats one long session.
What translation are these verses in?
The Berean Standard Bible (BSB), a modern English translation in the public domain, so you may print and share these cards freely. If your church memorizes from another translation, use the references with your own Bible.
Why memorize Scripture?
The psalmist says, “I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.” Verses you know by heart are there when you are tempted, afraid, grieving, or sharing your faith, even without a Bible in your hand.
