About this picture
A busy street in Jericho: market stalls with pots, fruit and cloth, a camel, a goat, a rooster and hens, a well and water jars, and a crowd in the street. In the big sycamore-fig tree a short man in a rich green robe has climbed onto a branch to see, and Jesus, in a white robe and blue mantle, walks below. Luke 19 tells how Zacchaeus, a rich chief tax collector, climbed the tree because he was too short to see over the crowd, and Jesus called him down and went to his house.

The story
Then Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. And there was a man named Zacchaeus, a chief tax collector, who was very wealthy. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but could not see over the crowd because he was small in stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see Him, since Jesus was about to pass that way. When Jesus came to that place, He looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, hurry down, for I must stay at your house today.” So Zacchaeus hurried down and welcomed Him joyfully.Luke 19:1–6 (BSB)
