About this plan
Christians have prayed the Psalms through every month for centuries. Spacing the five psalms thirty apart mixes the book’s moods every day: a lament, a song of trust, a hymn of praise. Day 29 is the long one, with Psalm 119.
Read them slowly, out loud if you can, and turn a line from each into your own prayer. The Psalms are the Bible’s prayer book: they give words for joy, fear, grief, anger and thanks.
How to keep going
- Pray before you read. Ask God to open your eyes to His word. If you want words to start with, here is a prayer before reading the Bible.
- Same time, same place. Tie your reading to something you already do every day: the first coffee, the lunch break, the last ten minutes before bed.
- Write one line. After reading, jot down one verse that stood out and one sentence about it. Some people use S.O.A.P.: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer.
- Read with someone. Share the link with a friend, your spouse or your small group and read the same plan. A short message (“Day 12 done!”) keeps both of you going.
- Missed a day? Keep going. Read today’s reading and catch up on a weekend, or just carry on. The aim is not a perfect checklist but time with God in His word.
Questions
How do you read the Psalms in 30 days?
Five psalms a day, spaced thirty apart: on day N, read Psalms N, N+30, N+60, N+90 and N+120. In 30 days you read all 150.
How long does it take each day?
About 7–9 minutes on most days. Day 29 includes Psalm 119, the longest chapter in the Bible, so it takes about twice as long.
Can I read Proverbs alongside the Psalms?
Yes. Many people read one chapter of Proverbs a day, matching the date (Proverbs 1 on the 1st). See the Proverbs plan.
