About this plan
The Bible is a library of 66 books, and starting at Genesis 1 and pushing on is where many first attempts stall (usually in Leviticus). This plan picks the chapters that carry the story, so you see how it fits together before you read every book.
Thirty days in the Old Testament, thirty in the New. Each day has a title so you know what you are about to read. When you finish, the Gospel of John or the New Testament in 90 days is a good next step.
How to keep going
- Pray before you read. Ask God to open your eyes to His word. If you want words to start with, here is a prayer before reading the Bible.
- Same time, same place. Tie your reading to something you already do every day: the first coffee, the lunch break, the last ten minutes before bed.
- Write one line. After reading, jot down one verse that stood out and one sentence about it. Some people use S.O.A.P.: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer.
- Read with someone. Share the link with a friend, your spouse or your small group and read the same plan. A short message (“Day 12 done!”) keeps both of you going.
- Missed a day? Keep going. Read today’s reading and catch up on a weekend, or just carry on. The aim is not a perfect checklist but time with God in His word.
Questions
Where should a beginner start reading the Bible?
Many people start with a Gospel, Mark or John, because they are about Jesus. This plan starts at the beginning but only with the chapters that carry the story, and reaches the Gospels on day 31.
How long does each day take?
About 6–8 minutes: one or two chapters.
Which Bible should I read?
Any faithful modern translation you will actually read. Every chapter in this plan can be read right on this page in the Berean Standard Bible, which is free and in plain modern English.
Other reading plans
Every chapter on this page is the Berean Standard Bible (BSB), word for word. Its publishers dedicated it to the public domain, so the whole text is here for you to read, free.
