About this plan
Lent is the season before Easter that many Christians set aside to turn back to God, to pray, and to prepare their hearts to remember Jesus’ death and resurrection. It is not commanded in Scripture, and nothing in it earns God’s favor: Christ has already done everything needed for our salvation, and we receive it by grace through faith. Reading toward Easter is simply a good way to be ready for it.
The plan follows the calendar, one reading a day (two chapters on a few days), about 4–6 minutes. It begins with Joel 2, “return to Me with all your heart,” and Psalm 51, walks with Jesus through Luke 9–19 as He sets out for Jerusalem, reads the sacrifices and promises that point to the cross, Isaiah 53 among them, and from Palm Sunday follows His last week to Easter morning. It works for families too: with children, read a few verses aloud each evening and talk about the title.
How to keep going
- Pray before you read. Ask God to open your eyes to His word. If you want words to start with, here is a prayer before reading the Bible.
- Same time, same place. Tie your reading to something you already do every day: the first coffee, the lunch break, the last ten minutes before bed.
- Write one line. After reading, jot down one verse that stood out and one sentence about it. Some people use S.O.A.P.: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer. New to this? Read how to read the Bible and how to have a quiet time.
- Read with someone. Share the link with a friend, your spouse or your small group and read the same plan. A short message (“Day 12 done!”) keeps both of you going.
- Missed a day? Keep going. Read today’s reading and catch up on a weekend, or just carry on. The aim is not a perfect checklist but time with God in His word.
Questions
When does Lent start in 2027?
Lent 2027 begins on Ash Wednesday, February 10, 2027. Day 1 of this plan is that Wednesday.
When is Easter 2027?
Easter Sunday is March 28, 2027. Palm Sunday is March 21 and Good Friday is March 26. The last eight days of this plan follow Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to Easter morning.
Why is this Lent plan 47 days long?
Lent is traditionally 40 days, counted from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday without the six Sundays; with the Sundays that is 46 days on the calendar. This plan has a reading every day, Sundays included, and ends on Easter Sunday itself: 46 + 1 = 47.
