About this plan
Each day is one chapter of the Bible (two for Jonah) with a title that tells the story in a few words. Some chapters are long, and with young children you don’t need to read every verse: read the main verses aloud, then talk about the title together. What happened? What does it show us about God? Older children can read the whole chapter themselves and tell you the story back.
Twenty-one stories from the Old Testament, nineteen from the New, in the order of the Bible’s big story: God makes the world, people turn away from Him, He keeps His promises through Noah, Abraham, Moses and David, and then He sends Jesus, who dies on the cross, rises again and sends the Holy Spirit. Reading a whole chapter aloud takes about 4–6 minutes.
How to keep going
- Pray before you read. Ask God to open your eyes to His word. If you want words to start with, here is a prayer before reading the Bible.
- Same time, same place. Tie your reading to something you already do every day: the first coffee, the lunch break, the last ten minutes before bed.
- Write one line. After reading, jot down one verse that stood out and one sentence about it. Some people use S.O.A.P.: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer. New to this? Read how to read the Bible and how to have a quiet time.
- Read with someone. Share the link with a friend, your spouse or your small group and read the same plan. A short message (“Day 12 done!”) keeps both of you going.
- Missed a day? Keep going. Read today’s reading and catch up on a weekend, or just carry on. The aim is not a perfect checklist but time with God in His word.
Questions
What age is this Bible reading plan for?
Roughly ages 4 to 12, read with a parent or grandparent. With little ones, read a few main verses and talk about the title; children who read well can read the whole chapter on their own.
How long does each day take?
About 4–6 minutes to read the whole chapter aloud, less if you read only the main verses. A short talk and a prayer afterwards turn it into a family habit.
Which Bible should we read with our children?
Any faithful translation your family reads. Every chapter in this plan can be read on this page in the Berean Standard Bible, in plain modern English. With small children, a picture Bible is a good companion: read its telling of the story, then a few verses from the chapter.
Other reading plans
Every chapter on this page is the Berean Standard Bible (BSB), word for word. Its publishers dedicated it to the public domain, so the whole text is here for you to read, free.
