About this plan
The Gospels slow down for Jesus’ last week: about a third of their chapters cover these eight days. This plan gives each day the chapter that tells what happened on it, from a different Gospel where it can, so you hear all four witnesses: John for Palm Sunday, Mark for Monday, Luke for Tuesday’s questions, Mark for the anointing and the plot, John for the upper room, the garden and the cross, Matthew for the guard at the tomb, and Matthew and John for Easter morning.
Some chapters run on into the next day, because the Gospels don’t break their story at midnight. Each reading is one or two chapters, about 6–8 minutes. Read it in the evening as a family, or in the morning before the day begins. If you want to start earlier, our Lent plan begins on Ash Wednesday and ends with these same eight days.
How to keep going
- Pray before you read. Ask God to open your eyes to His word. If you want words to start with, here is a prayer before reading the Bible.
- Same time, same place. Tie your reading to something you already do every day: the first coffee, the lunch break, the last ten minutes before bed.
- Write one line. After reading, jot down one verse that stood out and one sentence about it. Some people use S.O.A.P.: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer. New to this? Read how to read the Bible and how to have a quiet time.
- Read with someone. Share the link with a friend, your spouse or your small group and read the same plan. A short message (“Day 12 done!”) keeps both of you going.
- Missed a day? Keep going. Read today’s reading and catch up on a weekend, or just carry on. The aim is not a perfect checklist but time with God in His word.
