About this plan
The plan starts where marriage starts, in Genesis 2, then reads the stories of Isaac and Rebekah and of Ruth and Boaz, the wisdom of Psalms, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes for a home, and two chapters of the Song of Solomon. The middle week follows Jesus: a wedding at Cana, the wise builder, forgiving from the heart, the towel in the upper room. The last two weeks read the letters, from “Love is patient, love is kind” to Ephesians 5 and 1 Peter 3.
Take turns reading aloud, then talk for five minutes. One question works for every day: what in today’s chapter do we want to live out this week, and how can I help you do it? Then pray for each other by name. Each day takes about 3–4 minutes.
How to keep going
- Pray before you read. Ask God to open your eyes to His word. If you want words to start with, here is a prayer before reading the Bible.
- Same time, same place. Tie your reading to something you already do every day: the first coffee, the lunch break, the last ten minutes before bed.
- Write one line. After reading, jot down one verse that stood out and one sentence about it. Some people use S.O.A.P.: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer. New to this? Read how to read the Bible and how to have a quiet time.
- Read with someone. Share the link with a friend, your spouse or your small group and read the same plan. A short message (“Day 12 done!”) keeps both of you going.
- Missed a day? Keep going. Read today’s reading and catch up on a weekend, or just carry on. The aim is not a perfect checklist but time with God in His word.
Questions
Can engaged couples use this plan?
Yes. Most of these chapters are about love, faithfulness and how to treat each other, which is as good to read before the wedding as after it.
How long does each day take?
About 3–4 minutes to read the chapter aloud, plus a few minutes to talk and pray together.
What should we talk about after reading?
Keep it simple. Each of you names one verse that stood out, then answer one question together: what in today’s chapter do we want to live out this week, and how can I help you do it? Finish by praying for each other.
