About this plan
Week one is assurance: the joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, being born again, being saved by grace through faith, peace with God, and 1 John 5, written “so that you may know that you have eternal life.” Then come who Jesus is, His cross and His resurrection; then your new life: prayer, the Bible and the Holy Spirit; and last, sin and temptation, the church and sharing your faith.
This is a different plan from our Bible for Beginners plan, which walks through the Bible’s big story, from creation to the new creation, for anyone new to the Bible. This one is for your first month of following Jesus. Each day takes about 3–4 minutes. If you can, read it alongside a Christian friend or your pastor, and find a church where the Bible is taught.
How to keep going
- Pray before you read. Ask God to open your eyes to His word. If you want words to start with, here is a prayer before reading the Bible.
- Same time, same place. Tie your reading to something you already do every day: the first coffee, the lunch break, the last ten minutes before bed.
- Write one line. After reading, jot down one verse that stood out and one sentence about it. Some people use S.O.A.P.: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer. New to this? Read how to read the Bible and how to have a quiet time.
- Read with someone. Share the link with a friend, your spouse or your small group and read the same plan. A short message (“Day 12 done!”) keeps both of you going.
- Missed a day? Keep going. Read today’s reading and catch up on a weekend, or just carry on. The aim is not a perfect checklist but time with God in His word.
Questions
What should a new Christian read first?
Many start with the Gospel of John, written so that readers may believe in Jesus. This plan reads eight chapters of John alongside the passages that answer a new believer’s first questions: Romans 5, 6 and 8, Ephesians 1–2, 1 John, Acts 2 and Psalms 1 and 19.
How is this different from the Bible for Beginners plan?
Bible for Beginners is a 60-day tour of the Bible’s whole story. This plan is 30 days on the Christian life itself: assurance, prayer, the Spirit, temptation, the church and sharing your faith. A good order is this one first, then the beginners’ plan.
How long does each day take?
About 3–4 minutes: one chapter a day (two short ones on days 16 and 23). If you miss a day, simply pick up where you left off.
Other reading plans
Every chapter on this page is the Berean Standard Bible (BSB), word for word. Its publishers dedicated it to the public domain, so the whole text is here for you to read, free.
