About this plan

Proverbs is practical wisdom for work, words, money, friendship, family and the fear of the LORD, which it calls “the beginning of knowledge.” A chapter takes about 2–3 minutes.

Many Christians read a chapter of Proverbs every day for years: each month you meet the same verses at a different point in your life, and different ones stand out. In 30-day months, read 30 and 31 together.

How to keep going

Questions

Why read a chapter of Proverbs a day?

Because it fits: 31 chapters for the days of a month, each about 2–3 minutes long. Reading by the date means you never have to remember where you were.

Who wrote Proverbs?

Most of the book is “the proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel” (Proverbs 1:1). Proverbs 25–29 were copied by the men of Hezekiah, chapter 30 is the words of Agur and chapter 31 the words of King Lemuel.

What is the theme of Proverbs?

Living wisely before God. Its key line is that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7).
