Prayer Points for Healing
These prayer points are for anyone praying for healing: for yourself, for a sick family member or friend, or with a church prayer team praying for the sick. They cover coming to Jesus with our needs, prayer for body and mind, doctors, nurses and caregivers, those who are still waiting and not yet healed, and the healing of the soul. Each point has a Scripture and a short prayer.
Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for You are my praise.
Jeremiah 17:14 (BSB)
Read the verse aloud first, pray the prayer, then name the people you are carrying and what they are facing. Ask boldly and leave the outcome with God; these prayers do not promise a particular result. If you are praying with someone who is sick, keep it short and gentle and let them rest. Verses are from the Berean Standard Bible.
Coming to Jesus with our sick
1Jesus’ compassion for the sick
Lord Jesus, when You saw the crowd You had compassion on them and healed their sick. You have not changed. Look with that same compassion on everyone we bring to You today, and meet each one in their need.
When He stepped ashore and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them and healed their sick.
Matthew 14:14 (BSB)2Carrying our friends to Jesus
Lord Jesus, four friends carried a paralyzed man to You and would not let a crowd stop them. We carry our sick friends and family to You now in prayer. See our faith, and meet their deepest needs, body and soul.
Then a paralytic was brought to Him, carried by four men. Since they were unable to get to Jesus through the crowd, they uncovered the roof above Him, made an opening, and lowered the paralytic on his mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Mark 2:3-5 (BSB)3Asking humbly and boldly
Lord Jesus, like the leper on his knees we come and say: if You are willing, You can make them clean. You reached out and touched him. Reach out to those we name, and heal them by Your power and in Your mercy.
Then a leper came to Jesus, begging on his knees: “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!”
Mark 1:40-41 (BSB)
Prayer for body and mind
4Relief from pain
O Lord, be merciful to those who are frail. Heal those whose bodies are in pain and whose bones are in agony. Relieve their suffering, give them strength for today, and restore their health.
Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am frail; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are in agony.
Psalm 6:2 (BSB)5Strength on a sickbed
Father, sustain those on a bed of illness tonight, in hospitals, care homes and their own beds. Restore them, ease their discomfort, and let them know You are near through the long hours.
The LORD will sustain him on his bed of illness and restore him from his bed of sickness.
Psalm 41:3 (BSB)6The elders praying for the sick
Lord, You told the sick to call the elders of the church to pray over them. Give our pastors and elders faith and compassion as they pray, and give the sick among us the courage to ask.
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
James 5:14 (BSB)7Healing for the mind and emotions
God of all comfort, when anxiety overwhelms, let Your consolation delight the soul. We pray for those battling depression, anxiety, addiction or trauma: bring healing to their minds, wise counselors to their side, and a hope that holds.
When anxiety overwhelms me, Your consolation delights my soul.
Psalm 94:19 (BSB)8Rest for the weary
Lord Jesus, You invite all who are weary and burdened to come to You. Give rest to those worn down by long illness, sleepless nights and endless appointments, and let them find rest for their souls in You.
Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28 (BSB)
Doctors, nurses and caregivers
9Doctors and medical teams
Father, thank You for Luke the beloved physician, and for the doctors, nurses and researchers You use to bring healing today. Give them skill, wisdom and clear minds, and work through every treatment for good.
Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas send you greetings.
Colossians 4:14 (BSB)10Surgery, tests and treatment
Lord, we trust in You and say, You are our God; our times are in Your hands. For those facing surgery, chemotherapy or tests this week, give peace before, skill during and good recovery after.
But I trust in You, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me.
Psalm 31:14-15 (BSB)11Strength for caregivers
Holy Spirit, strengthen the spouses, parents, children and friends caring for the sick. Keep them from growing weary in doing good, send them rest and help, and let them know their quiet faithfulness is seen by You.
Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9 (BSB)12A church that cares for the sick
Lord Jesus, You said that when we look after the sick, we look after You. Make our church faithful in visiting, calling, bringing meals and sitting with the sick, so that no one in our care is forgotten.
I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me.’
Matthew 25:36 (BSB)
While we wait
13When healing has not come yet
Lord, Paul pleaded with You three times, and You answered that Your grace is sufficient. For those who have prayed long and are not yet healed, let Your grace be enough today, and let Your power rest on them in their weakness.
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:8-9 (BSB)14Chronic illness and disability
God, for those living with chronic illness, pain or disability, renew their inner self day by day, even as their bodies grow weak. Keep them from losing heart, and fix their eyes on the glory to come.
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, yet our inner self is being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory that is far beyond comparison.
2 Corinthians 4:16-17 (BSB)15Waiting for results and recovery
Lord, help those waiting for test results, a diagnosis or a slow recovery to wait patiently for You. Make them strong and courageous, and let them see Your goodness in the land of the living.
Still I am certain to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the LORD; be strong and courageous. Wait patiently for the LORD!
Psalm 27:13-14 (BSB)16The dying and their families
Good Shepherd, walk with those in the valley of the shadow of death. Take away their fear, comfort them with Your presence, and give their families grace to say goodbye. Receive into Your care all who trust in You.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 23:4 (BSB)
Healing of the soul
17Forgiveness and peace with God
Lord Jesus, You bore our sins in Your body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By Your wounds we are healed. Draw every sick person who does not yet know You to receive this healing.
He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. “By His stripes you are healed.”
1 Peter 2:24 (BSB)18Thanks for healing received
Lord Jesus, one healed man came back to thank You. Make us like him. Thank You for every surgery that went well, every fever that broke and every recovery we have seen, and keep us from forgetting to praise You.
When one of them saw that he was healed, he came back, praising God in a loud voice. He fell facedown at Jesus’ feet in thanksgiving to Him—and he was a Samaritan.
Luke 17:15-16 (BSB)19The hope of no more pain
God, thank You that one day You will wipe away every tear, and there will be no more death, mourning, crying or pain. Hold that hope before every sick person who trusts in Jesus.
‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,’ and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Revelation 21:4 (BSB)
A closing prayer
Father, You are the God who heals, and Jesus had compassion on every sick person brought to Him. We bring to You all who are ill. Heal them, Lord, in Your mercy; give wisdom to their doctors and strength to their caregivers. For those who wait, let Your grace be sufficient. Keep before us the day when there will be no more pain, and hold us close until then. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Questions
Does God always heal when we pray?
God does heal, and the Gospels record Jesus healing many. But Scripture also shows faithful believers whose suffering was not taken away: Paul asked three times for his thorn in the flesh to be removed and was told, “My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Corinthians 12:8-9), and he left his co-worker Trophimus sick in Miletus (2 Timothy 4:20). Christians pray boldly, trust God’s wisdom, and look to the full healing promised in Revelation 21:4.
Is it wrong to see a doctor if I am praying for healing?
No. Paul calls his companion Luke “the beloved physician” (Colossians 4:14), and he advised Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach and frequent ailments (1 Timothy 5:23), a common remedy at the time. Medicine and prayer are not rivals. Christians thank God for doctors and treatment and pray for Him to work through them.
What does James 5:14 mean?
James tells a sick believer to call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. Many churches still do this. The power is not in the oil but in the Lord to whom the prayer is offered, and James 5:16 adds that believers should confess their sins to each other and pray for each other.
What if someone is struggling with depression or thoughts of suicide?
Pray for them, and get help right away. In the US, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at any hour; if someone is in immediate danger, call 911. Depression is an illness, not a lack of faith, and care from doctors and counselors is one of the ways God helps. Psalm 34:18 says the LORD is near to the brokenhearted.
