Healing

I Am Willing

Mark 1:40-42

Jesus said this to a man with leprosy who came and knelt before Him while He was preaching throughout Galilee, begging to be made clean (Mark 1:40-42).

Lord Jesus, I know You can. I come to You on my knees with what I cannot heal. Reach out and touch me, and make me clean. Amen.

The Scripture

“Then a leper came to Jesus, begging on his knees: “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him, and the man was cleansed.”

— Mark 1:40-42

Prayer points from Mark 1:40-42

  1. Come to Jesus honestly, the way the man knelt and asked.
  2. Tell Him you believe He is able, and bring Him your question about whether He is willing.
  3. Thank Him that He was moved with compassion and reached out to touch the man no one would touch.
  4. Name the thing that makes you feel unclean or shut out, and bring it to Him.
  5. Ask Him to make you clean.
  6. Pray for someone you know who is sick or alone, that they would come to Jesus too.

About this verse

After leaving Capernaum, Jesus went throughout Galilee, preaching in the synagogues and driving out demons. During that time a man with leprosy came to Him and knelt down. Under the Law of Moses, a person with leprosy was declared unclean, and had to live alone, apart from everyone else (Leviticus 13:45-46). The man did not ask whether Jesus was able to heal him. He said, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” His only question was whether Jesus wanted to. Mark says Jesus was moved with compassion. He reached out His hand and touched the man before He healed him, saying, “I am willing,” and then, “Be clean!” Immediately the leprosy left him, and the man was cleansed. This is a prayer for when you believe God can help you but are not sure He wants to, and you need to bring Him the thing that makes you feel unclean or shut out.
