Prayer Points for the Month of June

These prayer points for the month of June help individuals, families, prayer meetings and churches pray their way into summer. The month brings Father’s Day on the third Sunday, graduations and weddings, summer camps and Vacation Bible School, and longer days at home. So the points pray for fathers and the fatherless, new seasons for graduates and newlyweds, children and the volunteers who teach them, and summer lived with God. Every prayer is drawn from its verse.

As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.

Psalm 103:13 (BSB)

Pray the fathers section in the week before Father’s Day and the children section the week before your VBS or camp; otherwise a point a day works well. In a group, read the verse, pray together, then name the fathers, graduates, couples and children in your church. Families can pray the summer section at dinner.

Fathers

  1. 1Walking with integrity

Father, thank You for men who walk with integrity, whose children are blessed after them. Strengthen fathers to be the same man at home as at church, honest at work, and faithful in the small things their children are watching.

The righteous man walks with integrity; blessed are his children after him.

    Proverbs 20:7 (BSB)
  2. 2Leading their households in Your way

LORD, You chose Abraham so that he would direct his children and household to keep Your way by doing what is right and just. Give fathers courage to lead their families in prayer, in Scripture and in worship.

For I have chosen him, so that he will command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, in order that the LORD may bring upon Abraham what He has promised.”

    Genesis 18:19 (BSB)
  3. 3Fathers who do not discourage

Lord, You tell fathers not to provoke their children, so that they will not become discouraged. Give dads patience at the end of long days, gentle words, quick apologies and the joy of simply enjoying their kids.

Fathers, do not provoke your children, so they will not become discouraged.

    Colossians 3:21 (BSB)
  4. 4A Father to the fatherless

Lord Almighty, You say You will be a Father to Your people, and we will be Your sons and daughters. For everyone whose father was absent, harsh or has died, be the Father they need, and make Father’s Day a day of Your comfort.

And: “I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

    2 Corinthians 6:18 (BSB)
  5. 5Fathers in the faith

Lord, many believers have teachers but few have fathers in the faith, as Paul was to the Corinthians. Thank You for older men who disciple younger men. Raise up more of them in our church, and give them patience and joy.

Even if you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.

    1 Corinthians 4:15 (BSB)

Graduates, weddings and new seasons

  1. 6Everything beautiful in its time

God, You make everything beautiful in its time, and You have set eternity in our hearts. For graduates, newlyweds, retirees and new parents starting a new season this summer, give trust that You are at work even when they cannot see the whole picture.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men, yet they cannot fathom the work that God has done from beginning to end.

    Ecclesiastes 3:11 (BSB)
  2. 7This is the way; walk in it

LORD, You promised Your people a word behind them, saying this is the way, walk in it, whether they turned right or left. Give clear guidance to those facing decisions this summer about school, work, moves and relationships.

And whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.”

  3. 8Steps ordered by the Lord

LORD, You order the steps of those whose way You delight in, and though they fall, they are not overwhelmed, because You hold their hand. Hold the hands of young adults taking their first unsure steps into adult life.

The steps of a man are ordered by the LORD who takes delight in his journey. Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, for the LORD is holding his hand.

    Psalm 37:23-24 (BSB)
  4. 9Jesus at the wedding

Lord Jesus, You were invited to the wedding at Cana, and You came. Be welcome at every wedding this summer. Bless the couples getting married, and let their marriages be built on You from the very first day.

On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and His disciples had also been invited to the wedding.

    John 2:1-2 (BSB)
  5. 10A home in God for those who move

Lord, You have been our dwelling place through all generations. For families moving to a new house, a new city or a new country this summer, be their home before any address is. Lead them quickly to a church family.

A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, You have been our dwelling place through all generations.

    Psalm 90:1 (BSB)

Children at camp and VBS

  1. 11Praise from the mouths of children

Lord Jesus, when children shouted Your praise in the temple, You welcomed it. Fill our Vacation Bible School and summer camps with children singing about You, and let the songs they learn stay with them for life.

“Do You hear what these children are saying?” they asked. “Yes,” Jesus answered. “Have you never read: ‘From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praise’?”

    Matthew 21:16 (BSB)
  2. 12Teaching children the fear of the Lord

LORD, bless every VBS teacher, camp counselor and children’s volunteer who gathers children to teach them the fear of the LORD. Give them energy, patience, creativity and a clear, simple way to share the gospel.

Come, children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

    Psalm 34:11 (BSB)
  3. 13Leaders who set an example

Lord, give camp counselors and youth leaders integrity in everything they do and say, so that no one can find anything bad to say about them. Let children see Jesus in how they live, not only in what they teach.

In everything, show yourself to be an example by doing good works. In your teaching show integrity, dignity, and wholesome speech that is above reproach, so that anyone who opposes us will be ashamed, having nothing bad to say about us.

    Titus 2:7-8 (BSB)
  4. 14Not one of these little ones lost

Father in heaven, You are not willing that any of these little ones should perish. As children hear the gospel this summer, open their hearts to trust Jesus, and help parents and teachers follow up with care.

In the same way, your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.

    Matthew 18:14 (BSB)
  5. 15Safe days and sweet sleep

Lord, keep children safe this summer at camp, on trips, at the pool and in the woods. Keep their feet from stumbling, and when they lie down in a strange bunk, let them not be afraid but sleep sweetly, knowing You are near.

Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you rest, your sleep will be sweet.

    Proverbs 3:23-24 (BSB)

Summer days with God

  1. 16Summer and winter will not cease

God of the seasons, You promised after the flood that as long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, summer and winter will not cease. Thank You for the faithfulness behind every long summer day. Let the warm weather remind us how steady You are.

As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall never cease.”

    Genesis 8:22 (BSB)
  2. 17The earth full of Your works

LORD, how many are Your works! In wisdom You made them all. As we hike, swim, garden and sit on the porch this summer, open our eyes to Your creativity, and turn our enjoyment of creation into worship of the Creator.

How many are Your works, O LORD! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures.

    Psalm 104:24 (BSB)
  3. 18Teenagers with summer jobs

Lord, the ant prepares its food in summer without anyone standing over it. Bless teenagers with summer jobs: give them diligence, honesty and good bosses, and help them learn to work hard as part of following You.

Walk in the manner of the ant, O slacker; observe its ways and become wise. Without a commander, without an overseer or ruler, it prepares its provisions in summer; it gathers its food at harvest.

    Proverbs 6:6-8 (BSB)
  4. 19Families together in harmony

Lord, how good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony. Bless family reunions, road trips and long weekends this summer. Heal old tensions, keep tempers cool, and make our time together a gift.

A song of ascents. Of David. Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!

    Psalm 133:1 (BSB)

A closing prayer

Heavenly Father, You have compassion on Your children as a father does. Thank You for fathers who love and lead, and be a Father to everyone who has missed one. Guide graduates and newlyweds into the new seasons You have for them. Keep our children safe this summer, and let the gospel they hear take root. Fill our long days with worship, rest and kindness, and keep us close to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Questions

When is Father’s Day?

In the United States, Father’s Day is the third Sunday of June, and it became a permanent national holiday in 1972. Many churches honor fathers in the morning service. For people whose fathers were absent or have died, the day can be hard; Scripture calls God a father of the fatherless (Psalm 68:5).

How can our church pray for VBS and summer camp?

Pray before, during and after. Before: for volunteers, supplies and the children who will come. During: for safety, energy and clear gospel teaching. After: for children who responded and for follow-up with their families. Some churches give each volunteer a few children to pray for by name through the summer.

What Bible verses are good for June?

For Father’s Day: Psalm 103:13, Proverbs 20:7 and Colossians 3:21. For graduates and new seasons: Ecclesiastes 3:11, Isaiah 30:21 and Psalm 37:23-24. For children: Psalm 34:11 and Matthew 18:14. For summer: Genesis 8:22 and Psalm 104:24.
