John 11:25
Jesus said this to Martha outside Bethany, after her brother Lazarus had been four days in the tomb (John 11:17-25).
Lord, You spoke it at a tomb, where it cost something. You are the resurrection and the life. Whatever has died in my life, speak life over it — and over me. Amen.
Jesus said this to Martha outside Bethany, after her brother Lazarus had been four days in the tomb (John 11:17-25).
“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies.”
— John 11:25
John 11:25 records Jesus' words to Martha outside the tomb of her brother Lazarus, days after his death, when even close friends assumed it was too late for anything but grief. Before raising Lazarus, Jesus makes the claim personal and present tense: 'I am the resurrection and the life,' not a future promise but a statement of who He is right now, for anyone who believes. The setting matters — this wasn't spoken in comfort but at a graveside, in front of a stone that had already been rolled over a body four days decayed. It's a declaration made precisely where hope looked most foolish. This is a prayer for whatever in your life feels dead, a relationship, a dream, a season, and for speaking Christ's own claim of life over it.
