Comfort & Not Alone

Little Girl, Get Up

Mark 5:41-42

Mark 5:41-42 is the moment Jesus raises the daughter of Jairus. Taking her by the hand, Jesus said, “Talitha koum!” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” Immediately the girl got up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). And at once they were utterly astounded.

Lord Jesus, You took her by the hand and said, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” Take my hand today. Speak Your word, lift me up, and let me walk with You again. Amen.

About this verse

In Mark 5, Jairus, a synagogue leader, begs Jesus to come and lay His hands on his little daughter, who is dying. On the way, messengers come to say she has died and there is no reason to bother the Teacher anymore, but Jesus tells Jairus not to be afraid and to believe. At the house He finds people weeping and wailing, and when He says the child is not dead but asleep, they laugh at Him. He puts them all outside and takes only the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with Him into the room where she is lying. There He takes her by the hand and speaks to her in Aramaic, and she gets up and walks. Jesus then tells them to give her something to eat. It is a prayer for anyone who feels something in their life has ended, or who needs Him to take their hand and lift them up.
