Son, Your Sins Are Forgiven

Mark 2:3-5

Mark 2:5 says: “When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’” It comes after four men lowered a paralyzed man through a roof to reach Jesus.

Lord Jesus, You saw the faith of four friends and You spoke forgiveness over a man who could not walk. Thank You for the people who carried me to You. Forgive my sins, and heal what I cannot fix on my own. Make me someone who carries others to You. Amen.

The Scripture

“Then a paralytic was brought to Him, carried by four men. Since they were unable to get to Jesus through the crowd, they uncovered the roof above Him, made an opening, and lowered the paralytic on his mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.””

— Mark 2:3-5

About this verse

Mark 2 opens in Capernaum. Jesus had come back home, and so many people gathered that there was no room left, not even outside the door. Four men brought a paralyzed man to Him on a mat, but they could not get through the crowd. So they went up, uncovered the roof above Jesus, made an opening, and lowered the man down on his mat. When Jesus saw their faith, the first thing He said to the man was, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Later in the same chapter Jesus also tells him to get up, pick up his mat, and go home, and he does. It is a story about friends who would not give up, and about a Savior who cares first for the heart. It is a prayer for anyone who needs forgiveness, and for anyone who is carrying a friend to Jesus.
