Healing

He Counts the Stars

Psalm 147:3-4

Lord, my pain feels too small to bring to You. But You who named every star wrote my healing into the very next line. Hold my heart tonight the way You hold the sky. Amen.

The Scripture

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars; He gives to all of them their names.”

— Psalm 147:3-4

About this verse

Psalm 147 was likely written after Israel's return from exile, celebrating God rebuilding Jerusalem and gathering back a scattered, broken people. In the same breath, the psalmist places two claims side by side: God 'heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds,' and God 'determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.' The pairing is deliberate — the same hands vast enough to number and name every star in the sky are the hands that tend to a single wounded heart. Nothing about your pain is too small for the God who catalogs galaxies. This is a prayer for the quiet ache that feels too minor to bring to God, when you need reassurance that your grief still matters to Him.
