Peace & Rest

Come Away and Rest

Mark 6:30-32

Mark 6:30-32 is the moment Jesus takes His tired apostles away to rest. And He said to them, “Come with Me privately to a solitary place, and let us rest for a while.” For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.

Lord Jesus, Your disciples did not even have time to eat. You told them, “Come with Me privately to a solitary place, and let us rest for a while.” My days are crowded too. Draw me away to rest with You. Amen.

Mark 6:30-32 is the moment Jesus takes His tired apostles away to rest. And He said to them, “Come with Me privately to a solitary place, and let us rest for a while.” For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.

The Scripture

“Meanwhile, the apostles gathered around Jesus and brought Him news of all they had done and taught. And He said to them, “Come with Me privately to a solitary place, and let us rest for a while.” For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. So they went away in a boat by themselves to a solitary place.”

Prayer points from Mark 6:30-32

  1. Tell Him honestly how tired you are.
  2. Bring Him the news of what you have done, the good and the hard.
  3. Ask Him to draw you away to a quiet place with Him.
  4. Receive rest as His invitation, not a failure.
  5. Pray for someone who is worn out from caring for others.
  6. Ask Him for His compassion when the crowds come back.

About this verse

Earlier in Mark 6, Jesus sends out the Twelve two by two to preach, drive out demons, and heal the sick. When they return, they gather around Him and tell Him everything they have done and taught. But the crowds around them are so constant that they have no time even to eat. Jesus does not send them straight back out. He invites them to come away with Him to a solitary place and rest for a while, and they leave by boat. Many people see them going and run ahead on foot, and when Jesus lands He has compassion on the crowd because they are like sheep without a shepherd. It is a prayer for anyone who is worn out from giving, serving, or simply keeping up, and who needs to hear that rest with Him is His own invitation.
