Peace & Rest

Perfect Peace

Isaiah 26:3

Isaiah 26:3 says: “You will keep in perfect peace the steadfast of mind, because he trusts in You.” It comes from a song of trust that Isaiah 26 says will be sung in the land of Judah.

Lord, You will keep in perfect peace the steadfast of mind, the one who trusts in You. My mind is not steady today. It jumps from one worry to the next. So I turn my thoughts back to You, and I trust You. Hold my mind fast on You, and keep me in Your perfect peace, tonight and tomorrow and every day after. Amen.

About this verse

Isaiah 26 opens with a song: in that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah. It begins with a strong city, whose walls and ramparts are salvation, and it calls for the gates to open so a righteous nation that remains faithful may enter. Then it speaks straight to God: You will keep in perfect peace the steadfast of mind, because he trusts in You. The next verse says why that trust is safe: trust in the LORD forever, because GOD the LORD is the Rock eternal. The peace in this verse is not the absence of trouble; later the same song speaks of a soul that longs for God in the night. It is a mind held steady on God because it trusts Him. It is a prayer for anyone whose thoughts are racing and who needs a peace they cannot make for themselves.
