Anxiety & Fear

He Already Called the Stop

Mark 6:31

Lord, I have been afraid to stop, as if resting meant giving up. Thank You that You called the halt before I did, and that You are not hurrying ahead of me but standing still, waiting. Let me sit down beside You today and breathe. Amen.

The Scripture

“Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.”

— Mark 6:31

About this verse

The disciples had just come back from being sent out two by two, full of stories about everything they had done and taught. It was the most fruitful stretch of their lives — and Mark notes that so many people were coming and going that they had no leisure even to eat. That is the moment Jesus says, 'Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.' Not after the crowd thinned. Not once the work was finished. He called the halt in the middle of the busiest, most useful season they had ever had, and He went with them. Rest here isn't a reward for finishing; it's an invitation from the One who stopped first.
