This line comes from the Beatitudes, the opening of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5, delivered to a crowd of ordinary people — the poor, the grieving, the overlooked — gathered on a hillside in Galilee. Jesus turns the world's expectations upside down: not the strong or successful are called blessed, but the mourning. To a culture that prized honor and triumph, this was a radical promise that grief itself is not shameful and is not the end of the story — comfort is coming from God himself. It is a word spoken directly over loss, not around it. This is a prayer for when grief is fresh and the comfort people offer cannot reach the wound.
