About this painting

Jesus rests on a stone under a blossoming tree, pink petals overhead and flowers at his feet, while a road winds away through the valley behind him. The verse is the last line of Matthew's Gospel: on a mountain in Galilee the risen Jesus sends his disciples to all nations, and promises to be with them always, to the end of the age.
