The Bible story
Saul on the Road to Damascus
Saul was on his way to Damascus to arrest followers of Jesus when a light from heaven flashed around him and he fell to the ground. Jesus spoke to him, and Saul was blind for three days. In Damascus a disciple named Ananias laid his hands on him, he could see again, and he began to preach that Jesus is the Son of God.
As Saul drew near to Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.
— Acts 9:3 (BSB)
Acts does not say Saul was riding; painters often add a horse.
