Lord, my peace keeps running out with the day's news. Yours doesn't. You said: My peace I give to you, not as the world gives. I open my hands and take it tonight. Amen.

John 14 is part of Jesus' final teaching to his disciples at the Last Supper, hours before his arrest, spoken to men about to watch everything they hoped for collapse. Knowing what was coming, he tells them, 'Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives.' The distinction matters: the world's peace depends on circumstances lining up, while the peace Jesus offers was given on the eve of his own suffering — proof it doesn't require the absence of trouble to exist. It's a gift handed over, not a feeling manufactured by good news. This prayer is for the days uncertainty has drained your peace and you need a source that doesn't run dry with the headlines.
