I Am the Bread of Life

John 6:35

Jesus said this to the crowd that followed Him to Capernaum the day after He fed the five thousand (John 6:24-35).

Lord Jesus, You are the bread of life. The hunger I keep feeding with everything else — I bring it to You. Fill me tonight, and let me stop starving at a full table. Amen.

Prayer points from John 6:35

Thank Jesus that He offers Himself, not just another meal, to the hunger that nothing else fills.
Name the hunger you keep feeding with other things: work, approval, food, screens or company.
Confess where you have been starving at a full table, busy and full yet still empty inside.
Ask Him to fill you tonight, and to help you come to Him first when the hunger comes back.
Ask Him to show you whether you are seeking Him for Himself or only for what He gives.
Pray by name for someone who seems to have everything yet is still hungry, that they would come to Jesus.

About this verse

Jesus says this the morning after He fed five thousand people with five loaves. The crowd rowed across the lake looking for Him, and He told them plainly why: they came back because they had eaten and were full. Then He shifted the whole conversation. Their ancestors ate manna in the wilderness — real bread, given daily, and every one of them still grew hungry again and died. So He offered something the miracle itself could not give: not another meal, but Himself. 'I am the bread of life' is the first of the seven 'I am' sayings in John, and it answers a hunger that no amount of food, success, or company ever reaches — the kind you keep feeding and keep feeling.

When to pray this prayer

When you got the thing you wanted and still feel empty
In the late-night scroll, reaching for one more distraction to fill something
When food, work, or shopping has become the way you soothe yourself
Before a meal, when you want to receive it from His hand instead of just consuming it
In a dry season when prayer and Scripture feel like they aren't feeding you
When you're comparing your life to everyone else's and nothing you have feels like enough
