Proverbs 18:10
Proverbs 18:10 is one of the proverbs of Solomon: a single line comparing the name of the LORD to a strong tower where the righteous run and are safe.
Lord, Your name is a strong tower, and I am running to You now. When fear chases me, when danger is near, when I have nowhere else to go, I come to You. Be my safe place. Keep me and the people I love inside Your walls tonight. I don’t put my trust in my own strength or my savings. I trust in You. Amen.
Proverbs 18:10 is one of the proverbs of Solomon: a single line comparing the name of the LORD to a strong tower where the righteous run and are safe.
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
— Proverbs 18:10
In Bible times a city’s strong tower was where people fled when enemies came; the book of Judges tells of a whole city running into one and locking themselves in. This proverb says the LORD’s name is that kind of place. His name stands for who He is, and to run to it is to call on Him and trust Him. The very next verse makes a contrast: “A rich man’s wealth is his fortified city; it is like a high wall in his imagination.” Money and our own plans can feel like protection, but the proverb calls that a wall in the imagination. The safety of the righteous is not that trouble never comes, but that they have Someone to run to when it does. This prayer is for anyone who feels exposed or afraid, for themselves, their home or someone they love.
