A Prayer for Protection

2 Thessalonians 3:3

2 Thessalonians 3:3 is a promise the apostle Paul gave the church in Thessalonica, right after asking them to pray that he would be delivered from wicked and evil men.

Lord, You are faithful. Strengthen me today and guard me from the evil one. Watch over my home, my family and everyone I love, when we are together and when we are apart. Keep us from harm, from evil and from fear. When I go out and when I lie down, I trust myself and them to Your care. Amen.

About this verse

Paul closes his second letter to the Thessalonians by asking for their prayers: that the word of the Lord would spread quickly, and that he and his companions would be “delivered from wicked and evil men.” Then he turns from his own danger to their safety: “But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.” The promise rests on God’s faithfulness, not on how strong or careful we are, and it holds two gifts: strength within and a guard around. Paul was not promising his readers an easy life; they were already enduring persecution. He was promising that the Lord would keep them. This prayer is for anyone asking God to protect themselves, their home, their children or someone they love, whether at home, on the road or far away.
