No Weapon Formed Against You

Isaiah 54:17

Isaiah 54:17 says: “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their vindication is from Me,” declares the LORD. It closes Isaiah 54.

Lord, You say that no weapon formed against Your servants shall prosper. I bring You what is coming against me: the schemes I see, the ones I do not see, and the words spoken against me. I will not live in terror, and I will not repay evil for evil. My vindication is from You. Guard me, give me true words when I am accused, and keep my heart at peace. Amen.

About this verse

Isaiah 54 is a chapter of comfort for God’s people, pictured as a barren woman and as an afflicted city lashed by storms. The LORD tells her to shout for joy and not to be afraid, because her Maker is her husband and the Holy One of Israel is her Redeemer. Though the mountains may be removed, He says, His loving devotion will not depart from her and His covenant of peace will not be broken. Near the end He speaks to the fear of attack. Terror will be far removed. If anyone attacks, it is not from Him, and whoever assails His people will fall. He created the craftsman who forges the weapon, and so no weapon formed against them shall prosper. The promise is not that God’s servants will never be opposed. It is that opposition will not have the last word, because their vindication is from Him. It is a prayer for anyone who feels attacked, accused or afraid.
