Prayer for Revival

Psalm 85:6-7

Psalm 85:6-7 comes from a psalm of the sons of Korah, in which God’s people remember how He once forgave and restored them and ask Him to revive them again.

Lord, You have shown favor to Your people before. You forgave their sin and restored them. Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your loving devotion and grant us Your salvation. Forgive our sin, and wake up our hearts, beginning with mine. Fill Your church with love for Jesus and hunger for Your word. Turn many in our land to You, and let Your glory dwell among us. Amen.

About this verse

Psalm 85 begins by looking back. The sons of Korah remember a time when the LORD showed favor to His land: “You forgave the iniquity of Your people; You covered all their sin.” Then the psalm turns to the present, where God’s people feel His displeasure again, and it asks, “Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?” Revival here is not a program or an event. It is God Himself restoring His people, turning them back from folly and giving them joy in Him. The psalmist then waits to hear what God will say, trusting that “His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that His glory may dwell in our land.” Christians still pray these words in seasons of spiritual coldness, asking God to do again what only He can do. This prayer is for anyone longing for revival and spiritual awakening, in their own heart, in their church and in the nation.
