Offering Prayer for Sunday Service

1 Chronicles 29:11-14

1 Chronicles 29:11-14 is part of King David’s prayer before the whole assembly of Israel, after he and the people had given willingly toward the temple his son Solomon would build.

Lord our God, Yours is the greatness and the power and the glory, and everything in heaven and on earth belongs to You. Who are we, that we should be able to give? Everything comes from You, and from Your own hand we give back to You. Thank You for every gift, and above all for Jesus. Receive these tithes and offerings, given willingly and with joy, and use them to make Christ known near and far. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

1 Chronicles 29:11-14 is part of King David’s prayer before the whole assembly of Israel, after he and the people had given willingly toward the temple his son Solomon would build.

The Scripture

“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the splendor and the majesty, for everything in heaven and on earth belongs to You. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom, and You are exalted as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You are the ruler over all. In Your hands are power and might to exalt and give strength to all. Now therefore, our God, we give You thanks, and we praise Your glorious name. But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from You, and from Your own hand we have given to You.”

— 1 Chronicles 29:11-14

  6. Thank Him above all for Jesus, His greatest gift.

About this verse

Late in his life, King David gathered Israel’s leaders to prepare for the temple his son Solomon would build. David gave from his own treasures, the leaders of the families and tribes followed, and the people rejoiced, “for they had given to the LORD freely and wholeheartedly.” Then David blessed the LORD before them all. He praised God, not the givers: “Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the splendor and the majesty, for everything in heaven and on earth belongs to You.” And he asked, “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from You, and from Your own hand we have given to You.” That is the heart of an offering. We are not paying God or buying His favor; we give back part of what He first gave us, with thanks. This prayer is for a pastor, deacon or church member asked to pray over the tithes and offering on a Sunday.
