Lamentations 3:22-23
Father, I wake still holding yesterday. Thank You that Your mercies are new every morning — that I come with empty hands and find them already full. I don't have to earn this day, only receive it. Great is Your faithfulness. Amen.

Lamentations is a book of raw grief, written after Jerusalem's destruction, when its author surveyed devastation and despair so total he says his soul was 'bowed down within me.' Yet in the middle of that darkest book of the Bible comes an abrupt turn: 'his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.' The claim is startling precisely because of where it's spoken from — not a peaceful season, but the ashes of loss. It insists that God's compassion isn't a finite resource used up by yesterday's failures or sorrows, but is freshly given with each sunrise. This is a prayer for starting over, for mornings after a hard day when you need permission to not carry yesterday forward.
