Psalm 143:8
Father, before today asks anything of me, remind me that Your mercy is new this morning — that I don't have to earn it. I don't need to see the whole day; just show me the first step, and I'll take it with You. Thank You for going out ahead of me. Amen.

Psalm 143 is one of David's laments, written while he was pursued and in danger, his spirit faint within him. Even so, he turns his first request toward the morning: 'let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust.' He doesn't ask to see the whole road ahead — only to know which way to take the next step, because he has lifted his soul to God before the day makes its demands. The psalm models a rhythm of trusting guidance one step at a time rather than needing the entire path revealed in advance. This is a prayer for the uncertainty of a new day, when you don't know what's coming but want to face it already trusting.
