The Bible story
Matthew was a tax collector, a job that made people despise him. Jesus saw him sitting at his tax booth and told him to follow Him, and Matthew got up and followed. Later Jesus ate at Matthew’s house with many tax collectors and sinners.
As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax booth. “Follow Me,” He told him, and Matthew got up and followed Him.
