This is the morning after the busiest night of Mark's first chapter. Jesus had taught in the synagogue, freed a man from an unclean spirit, healed Peter's mother-in-law, and then stood at the door until dark while the whole town carried its sick and its broken to Him. Anyone would have slept in. Instead, Mark says, He got up 'a great while before day' — the darkest watch, before any light — and walked out to a place where nobody could reach Him, and prayed. Not because He was running low, but because this was where the day's order came from. When the disciples finally hunted Him down with 'everyone is looking for You,' He already knew what came next: 'Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also.' The demands did not set His agenda; the dark hillside did. And He did not keep that hour to Himself. He rose early for the very people who were still asleep — including you.
