You're Still Standing

Ephesians 6:13

Paul wrote this to the believers in Ephesus while in chains, urging them to put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20).

Lord, I didn't win today — but I'm still standing, because You held me up. I trade my scoreboard for Your word: having done all, to stand. Guard my rest tonight; tomorrow we go again. Amen.

“Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand.”
— Ephesians 6:13

Thank God that you are still standing tonight, and that it was His strength that held you up.
Name the fight you did not win today, and lay the scoreboard down in front of Him.
Ask Him to help you take up His full armor again tomorrow: truth, righteousness, faith and His word.
Confess where you have measured the day only by results, and ask to count faithfulness as enough.
Ask for rest tonight that restores you, so you can stand your ground again in the morning.
Pray by name for someone in a long struggle, that God would keep them on their feet.

About this verse

Ephesians 6 was written by Paul, likely while under house arrest in Rome, describing the Christian life as a battle and calling believers to put on the 'full armor of God' — truth, righteousness, readiness, faith, salvation, the Spirit — piece by piece, the way a Roman soldier would suit up. The goal Paul names is striking: not to win a decisive victory or conquer new ground, but simply 'having done everything, to stand.' In a day where the fight was fierce, survival itself — staying upright, not being knocked down — counted as success. This is a prayer for the end of a day where you didn't accomplish much or win anything, but you made it through still on your feet, and that itself deserves to be recognized as enough.

At the end of an exhausting day where you feel like you didn't achieve enough
After surviving a hard shift, a hard conversation, or a hard diagnosis day
When you're being too hard on yourself for not 'winning' today
During a long season of just getting through, rather than getting ahead
Before sleep, when you need to let go of today's scoreboard
When caregiving or parenting leaves you depleted but still standing
