New Year Prayer for Family

Psalm 65:11

Psalm 65:11 is from a psalm of David praising God who listens to prayer, forgives sin and waters the earth until the fields are full of grain, so that He crowns the whole year with His bounty.

Lord God, You crown the year with Your bounty, and Your paths overflow with plenty. Thank You for carrying our family through the year behind us. As this new year begins, bless each one of us. Guide our steps, provide what we need, and keep us close to one another and to You. Let our home overflow with Your goodness. Amen.

About this verse

Psalm 65 is a song of David, and it moves from the temple out to the open fields. God listens to prayer and atones for sin; He stills the roaring of the seas; then He tends the land: “You attend to the earth and water it; with abundance You enrich it.” The showers soften the furrows, the grain grows, and the psalm reaches its height: “You crown the year with Your bounty, and Your paths overflow with plenty.” The picture is a whole year of work crowned by God’s goodness at harvest. A family can pray this at the turn of the year in two directions: looking back to thank God for what He gave, and looking ahead to ask Him for what the new year will need. It is a good verse to say together at a New Year meal, or to write at the front of a new family calendar. This prayer is for a family to pray together on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day.
