This is Mary's song, spoken during her visit to her relative Elizabeth shortly after the angel Gabriel told her she would bear the Messiah. Mary was young, unmarried, and from an unremarkable town — by any social measure, a nobody — yet she responds to the news not with fear but with praise, declaring that God has looked on her humble, lowly state and that all future generations will call her blessed. Her song, known as the Magnificat, echoes the Old Testament prayer of Hannah and became one of the most recited passages in Christian worship. It is the voice of an ordinary person recognizing that God had chosen to work through her, low estate and all. This is a prayer of praise for anyone who feels unseen yet senses God is doing something meaningful through their life.
