No Word from God Will Fail

Luke 1:37

Luke 1:37 is what the angel Gabriel told Mary in Nazareth, after announcing that she would give birth to Jesus and that her relative Elizabeth, who had been called barren, had conceived in her old age.

Lord God, You kept Your word to Mary and to Elizabeth, and no word from You will ever fail. Today I bring You something that looks impossible to me. I don’t know how You will answer, but I know You are able, and I trust Your will. Like Mary, I say: I am Your servant. May it happen to me according to Your word. Amen.

About this verse

Gabriel had just told Mary, a virgin pledged in marriage to Joseph, that she would give birth to the Son of the Most High. Mary asked the natural question, “How can this be,” since she was a virgin. The angel told her the Holy Spirit would come upon her, and gave her a sign close to home: Elizabeth, old and called barren, was in her sixth month. Then he said, “For no word from God will ever fail.” Many English Bibles put it as nothing will be impossible with God. Both say the same thing from two sides: what God has spoken, God is able to do. Mary’s reply is the heart of faith: “I am the Lord’s servant,” and “May it happen to me according to your word.” She did not yet know how; she trusted the One who spoke. This prayer is for anyone facing something that looks impossible, who wants to trust God the way Mary did.
