Anxiety & Fear

He's Already Walking the Road Ahead of You

Deuteronomy 31:8

Lord, I'm afraid of this day before it has even begun. Thank You that You have already gone ahead of me—that I am not walking into anything You have not walked into first. Turn me around when I forget, and let me follow You into today. Amen.

The Scripture

“The LORD himself goes before you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

— Deuteronomy 31:8

About this verse

Deuteronomy 31 is Moses' farewell to Israel at the edge of the Promised Land. He is old, he will not be crossing over with them, and the people are about to face fortified cities and unknown enemies without the leader who brought them out of Egypt. Moses hands leadership to Joshua and gives Israel this charge: 'The LORD himself goes before you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.' The comfort is not that the road ahead is safe, but that God has already walked it before they set foot on it — nothing they meet will be new to Him. Moses repeats the phrase to Joshua directly in the same chapter, making it both a national promise and a personal one. This is a prayer for the fear that comes before stepping into the unknown.
