The Bible story

The Ascension of Jesus

For forty days after His resurrection Jesus appeared to His disciples. Then He led them out near Bethany, lifted up His hands and blessed them, and while He was blessing them He was taken up into heaven. They worshiped Him and went back to Jerusalem with great joy.

While He was blessing them, He left them and was carried up into heaven.
— Luke 24:51 (BSB)
