Anxiety & Fear

I Am the Door

John 10:9

Lord Jesus, I have stood outside so many doors that never opened, and I brought that fear to You. Thank You that You are the door — not locked, not guarded, but open, with Your own light on the threshold. I come in by You. Lead me to Your pasture, and let my heart stop bracing for the sound of a lock. Amen.

The Scripture

“I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture.”

— John 10:9

About this verse

Jesus' words about the door, rendered gate in the Berean Standard Bible, come right after John 9, where a man born blind is healed and then thrown out of the synagogue for telling the truth about it. John notes that when Jesus heard the man had been thrown out, He went and found him. Then, speaking to the same leaders who had shut that man out, Jesus describes a sheepfold with one way in and calls Himself that way. The promise is not a narrow checkpoint: whoever enters through Him will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. Safety and freedom both, a place you belong without being locked inside. For anyone who has been turned away by people who claimed to speak for God, or who has knocked on so many closed doors that they now brace for the next refusal, this is the other kind of door. It is open, and the one standing in it is the one who came looking for you. This prayer is for walking through it without bracing.
