Faith & Doubt

They followed an ordinary-looking man. Then His face became the sun.

Matthew 17:2

Lord Jesus, the friends beside You saw, for one moment, who You really are. Open my eyes too — when You seem ordinary, let me glimpse Your glory and listen to You. Amen.

The Scripture

“And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun.”

— Matthew 17:2

About this verse

Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a mountain, and there his appearance suddenly changed before them — his face shone like the sun, his clothes became dazzling white, and Moses and Elijah appeared speaking with him. A voice from a bright cloud declared, 'This is my beloved Son... listen to him.' For three disciples who had walked alongside an ordinary-seeming teacher, this was a sudden, overwhelming glimpse of who Jesus truly was beneath the familiar surface — a moment of glory in the middle of an otherwise unremarkable journey. It happened shortly after Jesus first predicted his coming suffering, as if to fortify the disciples before the hard road ahead. This is a prayer for wanting fresh eyes to see Christ's glory when faith has grown routine or ordinary.
