Salvation

Prayer of Salvation

Romans 10:9-10

Romans 10:9-10 comes from the apostle Paul’s letter to the Christians in Rome, where he explains that anyone, Jew or Greek, is saved by believing in the heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and confessing Him as Lord.

Lord God, I come to You just as I am. I have sinned against You, and I cannot make myself right. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, and that You raised Him from the dead. I turn from my sin and trust in Him alone. Jesus is Lord, and I give my life to Him. Please forgive me and make me new. Thank You for the gift of salvation, which I could never earn. Help me follow Jesus every day. Amen.

The Scripture

“that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved.”

— Romans 10:9-10

About this verse

The Bible gives no fixed sinner’s prayer, and no set of words saves anyone; Christ saves those who trust Him. In Romans 10 Paul explains that God’s righteousness is not earned by keeping the law but received by faith. If you confess Jesus as Lord and “believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” A few verses on he adds, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Jesus told of a tax collector who stood at a distance and prayed only, “God, have mercy on me, a sinner!” and went home justified. The prayer here is simply a way to tell God you are turning to Him and trusting Jesus. If you have prayed it and meant it, tell a Christian friend, find a church that teaches the Bible, start reading the Gospel of John, and be baptized as your church teaches. This prayer is for anyone, young or old, who is ready to trust Jesus today.
