A Prayer for My Wife

Proverbs 31:25-26

Proverbs 31:25-26 comes from the poem that closes the Book of Proverbs, a portrait of “A wife of noble character” whose strength, honor and wise words bless her husband and her household.

Lord God, thank You for my wife. Clothe her with strength and honor, so she can laugh at the days to come instead of fearing them. Give her wisdom when she speaks, and let faithful instruction be on her tongue. When she is weary, renew her. Help me see how precious she is, trust her with my whole heart, and praise her as she deserves. Amen.

The Scripture

“Strength and honor are her clothing, and she can laugh at the days to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”

Prayer points from Proverbs 31:25-26

  1. Thank God for your wife by name and for the strength you have seen in her.
  2. Ask God to clothe her with strength and honor in whatever she faces this week.
  3. Pray for peace about the future, so that she can laugh at the days to come.
  4. Ask Him to give her wisdom in her words and faithful instruction on her tongue.
  5. Pray for rest and renewal wherever she is tired.
  6. Ask God to help you honor, trust and praise her, at home and in front of others.

About this verse

The last chapter of Proverbs ends with a poem that begins, “A wife of noble character, who can find? She is far more precious than rubies.” It describes a woman who works with eager hands, rises early to provide for her household, opens her arms to the poor and is trusted by her husband. In the middle of that busy picture come these two verses. Her real clothing is not what she wears but strength and honor, and she can laugh at the days to come: not because the future will be easy, but because fear of it does not rule her. Her words carry wisdom and faithful instruction. The poem ends by saying that “a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised,” and her husband praises her too. The chapter is a portrait, not a checklist. Prayed by a husband, it becomes a blessing: asking God to give his wife strength, peace about tomorrow and wise words. This prayer is for any husband who wants to bless his wife and thank God for her.
