A Prayer for Exam Success

Daniel 1:17

Daniel 1:17 tells how God gave Daniel and his three friends, young men from Judah taken to Babylon for three years of training for the king’s service, knowledge and understanding in every kind of literature and wisdom.

Lord God, You gave Daniel and his friends knowledge and understanding. I come to You as I prepare for this exam. Help me study faithfully and remember what I have learned. When I sit down for the test, give me a clear mind and a calm heart. Keep panic away. Help me do my honest best, and let my worth rest in You, not in a score. Amen.

The Scripture

“To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding in every kind of literature and wisdom. And Daniel had insight into all kinds of visions and dreams.”
— Daniel 1:17

Prayer points from Daniel 1:17

Thank God for the chance to learn and for the mind He gave you.
Ask Him for focus and discipline as you study.
Ask for knowledge and understanding, as He gave Daniel and his friends.
Pray for a calm heart and a clear mind during the test.

Place your results, and your worth, in His hands.

About this verse

Daniel and his friends Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah were young men from Judah, taken to Babylon and trained for three years in “the language and literature of the Chaldeans” before serving the king. It was a hard place to study: a foreign language, new names, and the king’s food, which Daniel resolved not to eat. They studied, they stayed faithful, and this verse says where their learning came from: “To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding in every kind of literature and wisdom.” At the end the king questioned them and found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his kingdom. The verse does not promise anyone top marks. It shows that study and faith belong together, and that understanding is a gift we can ask God for. This prayer is for students preparing for a test, from a school quiz to a nursing or bar exam, asking for clarity and calm rather than a guaranteed score.
