A Prayer for a Miracle

Mark 9:23

Mark 9:23 is Jesus’ answer to a desperate father who had brought Him his son, saying, “But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

Lord Jesus, I need a miracle. Like the father who brought You his son, I bring You what I cannot fix: have compassion on us and help us. You said all things are possible to the one who believes. I do believe; help my unbelief. I place this in Your hands and trust You with the answer. Take my hand, as You took that boy’s hand, and lift me up. Amen.

Mark 9:23 is Jesus’ answer to a desperate father who had brought Him his son, saying, “But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

The Scripture

About this verse

Coming down from the mountain, Jesus found His disciples in a crowd, unable to help a boy who since childhood had been thrown into fire and water by a spirit. The disciples had not been able to help, and the father said, “if You can.” Jesus echoed his words back to him, and then said, “All things are possible to him who believes!” The father’s reply is one of the most honest prayers in the Bible: “I do believe; help my unbelief!” Jesus did not turn him away for doubting. He freed the boy, took him by the hand and helped him to his feet. A prayer for a miracle does not need perfect faith; it needs to bring the need to Jesus. He decides how and when to answer, and His love can be trusted either way. This prayer is for anyone praying for a miracle, for healing, for a child, for a marriage, or for a need only God can meet.
